La Dolce Vita - Linked Open Data has been developed for the examination of 'Knowledge Organization and Digital Methods in the Cultural Heritage Domain' course of DHDK, University of Bologna, a.y. 2018/2019. For the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the release of the movie "La Dolce Vita", we decided to implement a Link Open Data model focused on the production and distribution of this cult movie directed by Federico Fellini in 1960.
Data, when isolated, have limited potentiality; on the contrary, their value increases when one or more datasets, produced and published independently and by different subjects, offer the possibility of being integrated and interrogated between them in order to create new shared knowledge.
Advantages:
We have made a selection of 10 items of different types coming from archives, museums, libraries websites, and they represent several aspects of the movie "La Dolce Vita".
An entity/relationship model that describes our idea and highlights the relationship between entities.
Analysis of the metadata standards used by the various institutions from which we have selected our items.
Alignment between the different standards previously selected to describe metadata related to people, places, dates and concepts.
Theoretical bases on our idea: the theoretical model is mainly based on the E/R model, but it extends it with new properties to properly represent the scenario.
Creation of conceptual model by reusing existing standard considered the most appropriate ones which allow to represent the terms we need for describing the scenario.
Description of data on the bases of the previous conceptual model.
Description of our data in RDF language (Turtle and XML) and graphical representation of them.
Our data connected to other related sources through URIs. They are related because of the sharing of one of the features of the object.
